Jenny– looks good! A few comments regarding the uneven baseline and character spacing. Both seem to be just a titch off, and not enough to make it feel intentional. The character spacing is less disturbing, but the uneven baseline of the wordmark makes it feel like an in-progress piece (which, I suppose it really is...) Also, when the wordmark is enlarged, it starts to have a recognizable stroke quality that's not unique enough. On a smaller scale it seems handdrawn, but this isn't the case when it's enlarged. Also, watch your use of shape– the "M" could easily use similar curves as the snail; this refinement would help bring the symbol and wordmark in closer union with each other.
I agree that the character spacing is a little off, but that should be easy to fix and it is a little more legible than before. You added texture to it which seems to be working. From far away, the word can disappear. I like the choice of red, because when thinking about italian restaurants, warm colors are what I think of and red is very strong and stands out. I agree with Ange on the symbol, meaning it still can be refined to make them fit well together and separately.
This blog has been created for Graphic Design II "Identity & Symols" at The University of Minnesota, Spring 2009. This is where I throw up (not literally) all of my thoughts. Enjoy!
